PhD Candidate
Giorgos Papangelis obtained his Bachelor Degree in 2004 from the Department of Physics, Section of Environmental Physics and Meteorology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece. He also participated in the Erasmus program in 2002-2003 and during this time he studied at the Department of Physics at the University of Seville, Spain. On 2009 he obtained his Masters Degree on Environmental Physics and Meteorology at the NKUA. He worked as a contracted researcher on various research projects at the Group of Numerical Applications in the Atmosphere of the NKUA Physics Department (2009-2018) and also at the Institute for Environmental Research & Sustainable Development of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). His research topics are related to:
- Atmospheric Boundary Layer physics
- Land - atmosphere interactions
- Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of the atmospheric boundary layer over heterogeneous surfaces.
- Mesoscale atmospheric simulations (e.g. WRF model)
- Data assimilation
- Application of the RF model and optimizing the representation of urban surface characteristics - urban microclimate and urban planning.
Currently he is a Research Fellow at the the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS)
for the National Observatory of Athens, under the ReACT team.
