This is a big moment for PANGEA and Team ReACT: We’re excited to reshare that the PANGEA-ReACT Station is now part of the World Meteorological Organization Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Programme!
GAW is a worldwide network dedicated to monitoring and understanding the atmosphere’s composition, providing essential data that supports global climate action and air pollution policies.
The PANhellenic GEophysical observatory of Antikythera (PANGEA), located in the island of Antikythera, at the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean basin, is the main atmospheric monitoring station of the National Observatory of Athens (NOA). PANGEA-ReACT plays a vital role in Calibration/Validation (Cal/Val) for earth observation satellite missions, focusing on critical areas like atmospheric composition, Essential Climate Variables, aerosol-cloud-radiation interactions, and the weather-precipitation-dryness complex.
Our ReACT team has continuously operated the 24/7 aerosol remote sensing facility at Antikythera, contributing valuable data to the global climate science community.
As a GAW member, PANGEA-ReACT will continue to provide advanced remote sensing measurements from this unique observatory, while the PANGEA4CalVal project will soon be setting up new remote sensing monitoring instruments and working through the PANGEA4CalVal project to establish a future Cal/Val center in the Mediterranean region, paving the way for new scientific innovations and collaborations.
