Following this week's successful event at the Academy of Athens, team ReACT is excited to announce two innovative information hubs focusing on atmospheric composition, climate, and energy in Greece: AtmoHub and ClimateHub.
During the event, Dr. Vassilis Amiridis, Director of Research at the National Observatory of Athens, highlighted the importance of these hubs and introduced Destination Greece - a unified platform of hubs, including AtmoHub and ClimateHub. This platform aims to deliver cutting-edge services for monitoring and managing environmental and climate challenges.
Some of the key components of Destination Greece include:
- satellite data from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the national Microsatellite Programme
- the powerful DAEDALUS supercomputer, for improved spatial resolution
- the research infrastructure PANACEA for the study of atmospheric composition and climate change in southern Europe and eastern Mediterranean
- the PANGEA observatory at the island of Antikythera for measuring climate parameters
- international campaigns in 2026, including ARCHIMEDES campaign for studying microphysical atmospheric processes that affect the weather in Greece and NASA's CoSENSE mission for validating satellite missions and support the Scylight communications program
Destination Greece is a pioneering initiative providing access to advanced databases and innovative disaster prevention tools. By empowering state agencies and local organizations, it enhances emergency response capabilities, fostering a more resilient and sustainable future.
This initiative is made possible through collaboration with world-class institutions, including the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
